Mattie J.T. Stepanek and his service dog,
Micah at the 2003 ISP Summer Convention and Symposium. Washington D.CThis child, whose tiny frame was ravaged by disease and confined to a wheelchair, delivered a poetic message that hit each of us in the gut with a force more powerful than the punch from a heavyweight boxer.
Mattie J.T. Stepanek, his inspiring inner strength with poetry that has won the hearts of millions. All five of the books have become New York Times best sellers. August 16, 2003 is a day many of us will never forget. Nearly three thousand poets from over 45 countries around the world were gathered in the Grand Ballroom of the Washington Hilton Hotel for the International Society of Poets 15th Annual Convention and Symposium. Many of the giants in poetry and entertainment were present including Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winners, Hollywood movie stars, Motown legends and members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His message through his poetry was happiness and worldwide peace.
I personally meet Mattie J.T. Stepanek, shook his hand congratulated him for all his accomplishments gave him my poem for "Reaping Peace United As One" that I read in a contest within my fellow poets. I also gave him gift publication called "Draw Close to Jehovah". He thank me for the gifts I gave him and wished me the best. In addition, I gave my poetry to the 'Worlds Longest Poem for Peace" a fund raiser lead by Mattie J.T. Stepanek, raised over $80,000.00 dollars to help battle MS ( Muscular Dystrophy ) at 2003 ISP Summer Convention and Symposium. Washington D.C.
To his family my prayers and loving thoughts and the brief moments that I personally meet Mattie J.T. Stepanek has encouraged me to boldly take my poetry to hold no bars and to make the most of my daily life. Thanks for the wonderful memories that I will never forget. My heart and prayers go out to the entire family we will miss him dearly.
